MAY WEEK – HIGHER EDUCATION FOR BLACK WOMEN

This collage highlights the North Jersey Alumnae Chapter’s annual observance of May Week, a signature Delta Sigma Theta program established in 1920 at the National Convention at Wilberforce University to promote academic excellence and elevate the importance of education—particularly for Black women. The images capture NJAC sorors leading workshops, hosting community events, and partnering with organizations such as the Urban League of Union County to create meaningful programming rooted in empowerment, innovation, and lifelong learning. With themes like “Leveraging AI for Challenging Times,”May Week continues to evolve, addressing the modern needs of students and professionals while honoring Delta’s historic commitment to educational advancement.

Throughout May Week, NJAC offers panel discussions, college readiness sessions, career development workshops, cultural programs, and community reflections that encourage participants to pursue higher education and professional growth. The event flyer and classroom setting depicted in the collage reflect the chapter’s dedication to equipping women and youth with tools to navigate emerging technologies, academic pathways, and leadership opportunities. May Week remains a cornerstone of NJAC’s mission, celebrating achievements within the community while inspiring future generations to aim higher, dream boldly, and embrace the power of education.
