BUILDING HOMES FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

The North Jersey Alumnae Chapter’s partnership with Habitat for Humanityshowcases Delta Sigma Theta’s deep commitment to service, economic empowerment, and community uplift. NJAC is widely recognized as a trailblazing chapter for its historical "firsts" in the state, adding to it as the first chapter in New Jersey to build homes for Habitat for Humanity. Through this hands-on initiative, NJAC members work alongside local families and volunteers to build and repair homes, helping create safe, stable, and affordable housing for those in need. Whether painting, assembling structures, landscaping, or supporting families through the homeownership process, sorors contribute their time, labor, and compassion to ensure that every project strengthens the foundation of the community.
Habitat for Humanity aligns powerfully with Delta’s Economic Development thrust, as stable housing is a cornerstone of financial security, educational success, and long-term well-being. NJAC’s involvement not only helps provide shelter but also fosters dignity, empowerment, and hope for partner families. The worksite becomes a place where sisterhood meets service, transforming both physical spaces and the lives of those who live in them. Through their ongoing support of Habitat for Humanity, NJAC continues to build stronger neighborhoods, promote equity, and uphold the Sorority’s mission of meaningful, sustainable community impact.
