BOOKNIC

BOOKNIC is a vibrant literacy-centered event that brings families, youth, and community members together to celebrate the joy of reading in an inviting, interactive outdoor setting. Rooted in Delta Sigma Theta’s enduring commitment to Educational Development, BOOKNIC reflects the Sorority’s long history of promoting literacy through initiatives such as the historic Bookmobile Program, “Dive into Books with Delta,” book drives, reading circles, and the celebrated Delta Authors on Tour. From traveling libraries that delivered books to underserved communities during the Jim Crow era to modern programs that uplift Black authors and readers, Delta’s legacy of literary empowerment lives on through events like BOOKNIC.
BOOKNIC transformed a picnic atmosphere into a dynamic learning experience—one where families shared stories, exchanged books, participated in engaging literacy activities, and connected with Delta women who champion lifelong learning. The event exemplifies the chapter’s belief that reading is both a joy and a pathway to opportunity. By fostering a love of literacy in a warm, communal environment, BOOKNIC continues Delta Sigma Theta’s tradition of using knowledge, culture, and accessible educational tools to strengthen communities. It stands as a testament to NJAC’s ongoing mission to empower minds, support young readers, and cultivate a culture of curiosity and academic success.
