KAPPA SIGMA RENAMED NORTH JERSEY ALUMNAE CHAPTER

The renaming of Kappa Sigma Chapter to the North Jersey Alumnae Chapter (NJAC) in 1956 marked a significant transition in the chapter’s history, symbolizing both its growth and its evolving role within Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. As the Sorority modernized its organizational structure and aligned alumnae chapters with geographic identities and reserving Greek-letter naming conventions for collegiate chapters, Kappa Sigma embraced this shift as an opportunity to reflect more clearly the breadth of its service across northern New Jersey. The new name strengthened the chapter’s connection to the communities it served, ensuring that its identity communicated both its regional presence and its commitment to Delta’s mission.
